BMR Calculator
Estimate the number of calories your body burns at complete rest with our BMR calculator (Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most accurate predictive equation for adults).
What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the energy your body uses to keep vital functions running while at rest – breathing, circulation, cell production and temperature regulation. Your BMR is the foundation of your daily calorie need.
How is it calculated?
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation:
- Men: BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + 5
- Women: BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age − 161
Frequently Asked Questions
- BMR vs TDEE — what is the difference?
- BMR is calories used at rest. TDEE multiplies BMR by an activity factor to estimate total daily calorie burn.
- How can I increase my BMR?
- Build lean muscle through strength training, get adequate sleep, and avoid extended very-low-calorie diets which can lower BMR.
